October YL Essential Oils - Sleep Aids

Hey Friends,
Brett and I are back from Ireland (for about two weeks) and as always we hit the ground running... we lead very busy lives and because of that we often have long days and find it hard to shut our brains off. That being said...

Who doesn't like a good nights sleep?! I know the people in our house do! This email is all about essential oils that aid sleep and sometimes snoring too.
Items of Note:
  • Lets learn together!! I would love to get to talk about any questions you might have! If you have any questions or are interested in getting together one on one just let me know. Lets grab a beverage!
  • In November I'll be placing my order the evening of Sunday, November 2 and my email/blog will be on essential oils to aid anxiety and emotions.
  • I'm not a doctor and neither I nor the oils make miracles, the oils work differently for everyone.
  • Always do a test spot when trying new oils (the underside of the upper arm works best, and one drop will do).
Sleep Aids:
Tranquil Rollon - a blend of lavender, cedarwood, and Roman chamomile essential oils blended with coconut oil. This blend is effective in reducing restlessness, decreasing anxiety, and inducing a calming feeling to the body and mind.
RutaVaLa Rollon - a blend with lavender, valerian, and ruta blended with coconut oil. This blend promotes relaxation of the body and mind, soothes stressed nerves and induces sleep.
Valerian - An oil clinically tested over the last 30 years for it's tranquilizing properties. This oil is know to exert a calming effect to the central nervous system and is often used for insomnia and anxiety.
Orange - An uplifting oil known to boost immunity, induce relaxation, and reduce depression. It's also very tasty in my daily water bottle!
Idaho Balsam Fir (can aid snoring) - This oil is known for it's ability to aid in healing respiratory conditions and relieving upper respiratory system infections and fatigue. IBR is also known for stimulating the mind and relaxing the body!
Ylang Ylang (Flower of Flowers) - The flower was once used to cover the bed of newlyweds on their wedding night. Diffuse this oil throughout the night while sleeping or massage 2-4 drops of oil neat* onto the soles of your feet just before bedtime. *Neat = straight from the bottle, no carrier oil. You can add a carrier oil if you wish, just put socks back on after.

Ireland Honeymoon Day One

Written from Loras perspective.

9 days in Ireland starts in Madison on a shuttle bus to O'hare, International Terminal 5.

Kevin and Keegan dropped us at the park and ride and the first bus that got there was FULL... so after waiting 20 minutes the next bus that arrived was on the road and 5 stops from O'hare. Traffic on the way down was slow and upon arrival at 6:15/6:20 (45 minutes behind schedule). Get checked in, through security, grab some food and water, and boom wait to board the plane. This plane (Aer Lingus) is 6 seats across plays movies, music or TV in the seat backs and serves you two meals. We caught up on the movies Blended, Edge of Tomorrow, and X-Men. Longest. Flight. Ever.we were so glad to land in Dublin, get through the check points, claim luggage, and wait for our shuttle to the hotel, Doubletree by Hilton, only to wait a couple more hours before getting into our actual room. That's just enough time for me to freshen up, and Brett to nap for 15 minutes, and we're back out the door to get on our tour bus!

In Dublin we got a full driving tour of the city (which is huge), and a walking tour of Trinity College (which is tucked in Dublin, and old) a beautiful college with a great history. We got to see the gate to the residence of the US Ambassador which is right next to the residence of the President of Ireland. Amazing.

Back to the hotel - it's time to drink! Literally, we have a meeting with our tour guide, John, and they buy us a drink! YAY! By the way, not impressed with the ciders I had in Ireland. After said drink and a quick low down of how things work on the your we're free to find dinner on our own. Some opted to stay at the hotel but we ventured out with Joe, Celia, Larry and Carol. After trying three restaurants we ended up at Doheny and Nesbitts for a few pints, veg soup, and shepherds pie.

It's been a long way, and we just walked around a strange city after dark so we hit the hay shortly after returning! A 6:00 am wake up call comes quick when you need to have your luggage outside the door at 7:00 am.

A year, and then some

We made it to our First Anniversary! (Brett's wearing his Lucky Guy shirt)

Yes, this post is a bit delayed. We've camped, flown, gotten passports, played baseball, went to baseball games, thought about a different house, stepped back from thinking about a different house, thought about another dog (still occasionally do), the list goes on.

We also went across the pond to visit Ireland! Best. Trip. Ever. My next several posts will be on our trip/honeymoon. We were there for nine amazing days. Things I loved the most: culture, food, Smithwicks (pronounced smid-icks), Irish Coffee, Jameson Whiskey, the land, the history. Many thanks to our family who watched Baxter and fed Fred while we were gone, in addition to taking us to the shuttle bus and picking us up from the airport.

Here we are back in Chicago!

September YL Essential Oils Information - Boosting Immunity

Hey Friends,

Here we are in FALL. I've assembled a few ideas to help with boosting immunity.

Please remember:
1. I'm not a doctor and neither I nor the oils make miracles and they work differently for everyone.
2. Always do a test spot when trying new oils (the underside of the upper arm works best, and one drop will do).
Oils to Build Immunity:
Lemon - promotes immunity by building your white blood cell functions and is also known to boost memory and help with relaxation. Try it in cool water or on a tablespoon with your favorite local honey as a cough suppressant.
Purification - A blend of six essential oils with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and tissue regenerating characteristics. I love to use this one on my wrists when I leave the house in the morning, we also diffuse it at home regularly.
ImmuPower - A blend of nine essential oils with antiseptic and anti-infectious properties to strengthen immunity and work to repair DNA cells. This one is going on my "get" list!
Egyptian Gold - Another blend of nine essential oils that originate from the Middle East and Central Europe. This blend offers an enchanting scent that stimulates the central nervous, immune, and respiratory systems. (currently out of supply until supply levels return to normal)Exodus II - This essential oil blend is said to have been used by Moses' brother Aaron to protect the Israelites from the plaque. It's built of purifying oils with cleansing properties to enhance the immune system. Try applying it to the soles of your feet before bed!

Other Immune Boosting Helpers:
1. Turn on the radio (and off the TV), less sitting more moving.
2. Get enough rest.
3. Eat well.
4. Get up and move!

Change

Love the earth and sun and animals, and your very flesh shall be a great poem ~ Walt Whitman

We often long for change, and then suddenly it's upon us. September has arrived and already there are apples, soon there will be pumpkins and apple cider. What seemed like so long ago, is now just around the corner... our trip to Ireland is approaching and that means it's time to start thinking about clothes and what to pack, among other things.

As always we've been keeping busy. I started the holiday weekend a day early and celebrated by shopping and getting lunch with my friend Sara. I had the whole day because Brett was working and then assisting his dad at Madison International Speedway on the safety truck.

The next morning we packed up the car, picked up some beer and headed to Lodi/Sauk City for some camping and tubing the Wisconsin River with a group of my friends. We'd never tubed this section of the river and the rain definitely added some extra to the trip, thankfully no lightning but the sirens did go off just as we were putting in. After tubing we headed back to Crystal Lake Campground for a taco/nacho dinner that everyone chipped in a little something for, a draft for Brett and shower for me was needed so we headed up to the camp store/bar/pool (there's a POOL!?) area for free wifi so Brett could do his draft. Eventually the others meandered up and we all meandered back for SMORES!

Sunday was definitely for relaxing, and we had some friends over to cook out and sit around the driveway fire. Monday included more relaxing.

I also took Tuesday off, some relaxing with a massage from mom followed by errands and another step closer to having our office/craft room more streamlined. The book shelf is finally empty! Books have been, or will be, stored away or put in the Little Free Library pile to get dropped off. I have books from 1999! I primarily use the library or get the book on our Nook (if available), Brett uses Audible to listen to books. My current read: Hungry for Change. Brett's has downloaded, but not started the Divergent Series. I've already read all three of those (on our Nook), I'm holding off on reading Four.Other office items have gotten chucked, stored, or will be donated.

Food experiments this week: crust less cheeseburger quiche (I forgot to thaw the crust), Japanese cucumber salad, a zucchini and ravioli lasagna. Most are recipes that I get from Pintrest and alter as we feel fit.

Tonight as Brett was golfing (I ride along) we could hear a chopper heading our way, sometimes this means Med Flight but thankfully not tonight. Tonight it was a Military medical chopper (think MASH, but modernized) doing their practice maneuvers, I still get excited to see Military vehicles of any form. As we're creeping closed to another anniversary of 9/11 and on-going terrorist attacks (ISIS in the news),  I'm reminded how extremely grateful to ALL of our service men and women past and present I am.

August YL Essential Oils Information & My New Facebook Page

I've had a couple inquiries on oils so here we go! This month's topics will be about eczema, heartburn, and the oils to assist in reducing their symptoms. I'll be placing a new order on Wednesday, September 3 if you want or need anything. I'll also be ordering samples of the Peace & Calming, Thieves, Lemon, Peppermint and Lavender for any new comers who might like to try them.

Please remember:
1. I'm not a doctor and neither I nor the oils make miracles and they work differently for everyone.
2. Always do a test spot when trying new oils (the underside of the upper arm works best, and one drop will do).

Eczema
, by definition, is an inflammatory condition of the skin attended with itching and the exudation of serous matter. The exact causes of eczema are unknown but there are known triggers and irritants. Irritants can be soap, shampoo, detergents, disinfectants (like chlorine) and contact with fruit, veggies, or meat juices. Triggers can be allergens (dust, pets, pollens, mold, etc), food, stress, or hormones. This information found on www.nationaleczema.org.

Heartburn, by definition, is a burning sensation in the stomach, typically extending toward the esophagus and sometimes associated with the eructation of an acid fluid. Another variable definition, gastroesophageal reflux disease, is a chronic condition in which acid from the stomach flows back into the lower esophagus, causing pain or tissue damage. Triggers can be citrus, coffee, alcohol, eating to close to bedtime, or even exercise. This information found on www.stopheartburn.com.

Oils to Assist Eczema

Lavender - a versatile essential oil (EO) used to cleanse, heal and soothe. The refreshing scent has properties to calm the mind and body. I hear it's great in lemonade too.
Rosemary - used for liver protection/conditions, throat and lung infections, and hair loss. This oil is traditionally used for improving mental clarity.
Melrose - a blend* of four EO's used to combat skin irritations with strong antiseptic properties. The oils in this blend also help regenerate damaged tissues and reduce inflammation.

Oils to Assist Heartburn

Spearmint - used to support normal digestion this oil works as an anti-inflammatory, mucolytic, anti-septic, and also increases metabolism.
Ginger - used to sooth minor digestive discomforts this oil works as an anti-inflammatory, anti-coagulant, and anesthetic. It's also good to use for rheumatism, arthritis, respiratory infections, congestion, muscle aches, and nausea.
Di-Gize - a blend* of eight EO's meant to promote a healthy digestive tract, this oil also relieves indigestion, heartburn, gas and bloating.

Oil to Assist Eczema and Heartburn

Lemon - taken internally this oil is believed to boost natural defenses; used topically it's a great pick-me-up to boost energy and mental clarity. I love to drink lemon in my water or in tea with local honey! If you have any questions regarding further details on the oils just let me know.

The Seed to Seal promise (one thing that makes them great) from Young Living is available here: http://www.seedtoseal.com/en
As always I would love to get feedback on topics or oils you'd like to learn more about, I'm looking forward to my September email which will be based on building immunity. I almost forgot, check out my new Facebook page LO.VE. (if you can't find it just let me know and I'll get you hooked up).

If you are interested in ordering anything or have
any questions please let me know! There's so much information out there, lets learn it together.

*blends of oils are a mixture of single oils (lavender, ginger, lemon, etc) put together.

#50

Blog # 50, my how far I've come since 2008. My first post was three lines...

It's somehow hard to believe that we are nearly halfway through August 2014 already. My car turned TEN yesterday! We sure have been through a lot together in 10 years, to celebrate she's getting an oil change and wheel bearing replacement on Wednesday. Hey - live large right?!

I/we've been doing a lot of reading lately, some of the books on topic include Go Pro - 7 Steps to Becoming a Network Marketing Professional (Eric Worre), Financial Fitness (Brady and Woodward), and Hungry for Change (Colquhoun and Bosch). We are always trying to learn and better ourselves, sometimes it's hard because I don't know where to start and I just want to work on everything. All. At. Once.

That's not how it works... so instead I regularly renew the length of the books that I've borrowed from the library OR I return them in the hopes that my interest will peak again in the future, thus leading me to borrow them again.

We're regularly (thankfully in smallish amounts) harvesting from the garden our fruits of labor: tomatoes, zucchini, kale, onions, and cucumbers. I don't think that the second batch of spinach is going to take off, that's kind of a bummer but there is always next year (peas and beans are in that boat too). My problem now?! Grocery store items taste so bland and I'll be bummed once then end of the season comes, but it'll give me something to look forward to next year. Making the veggie garden better and working on the perennial garden out front.

In baseball Brett coached in the Home Talent All-Star game this last Friday, and coached again in the playoff game against Albion. Unfortunately the Merchants did loose to Albion, which ends our Sunday league season for the year but we still have Thursday night league. Thank you to everyone that has come out and supported us in supporting the Merchants. Many of the team are like family to us and we are so blessed to have them in our lives.

Coming up in the next month we have more reading, starting a Facebook business page to promote essential oils and crafts, canning spaghetti sauce/salsa from the garden items, some river tubing and a few camping trips too!

Hope you are enjoying summer!

Stay tuned for a Facebook page titled simply LO.VE. (short for Lots Of Varied Experiences)*.

*Had to tweak how the FB page punctuation was show due to Facebook not liking the way it was written. Darn "The Man".
